Installing Windows 7 on a 64-bit Toshiba laptop

UPDATE: Toshiba has released a BIOS update for select models to be compatible with Windows 7 64-bit version. Download it from here This fixes issues with installing Windows 7 64-bit on Toshiba with AMD64 (Turion X2).

My Vista crashed recently with a bsod (blue screen of death) due to some driver update.

I had free Windows 7 available from my University. So I decided to upgrade.
It took me 3 days for installing 64-bit Windows 7 successfully on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite L305D).
This is what happened:

After installing and updating Windows 7, I again got a BSOD!! This time it was
STOP: c000021A Fatal System failure blah blah..

It won’t even let me format reinstall. Even XP install cd was giving error.

Thankfully many other people had the same issue and some one had found a solution (by fluke i think)
It is located here:

These are the steps for a successful installation:

1. Download both and burn 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 ISOs.
2. Start install using the 32 bit dvd. It will go to the windows logo then after that it start expanding files showing 0% complete.
3. At this the point eject the dvd and put in the 64-bit dvd and used the power button to reboot.
4. Start the setup process again and let it continue. Windows 7 will get installed after this.
5. Turn off automatic updates (till windows 7 is more stable).

Weird but that is the only way it works.

Windows 7 seems to be much faster than Vista and XP !! But why the BSODs??
